Hello, and thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I'm researching family who lived around Nay in the late 1700s and have found three references to an occupation I can't identify. I have attached screen shots of each example. The word appears to end in "ficier", and could star with "lane"? A number of ancestors worked in the wool trade in this area, so I wonder if it could be a reference to a wool grader or similar, but I would value any expertise or opinion.

Thanks again

Hello,

It is indeed "laneficier": a person engaged in the work and trade of wool.
