ROSS

(Gaelic) Local. A shire of Scotland. Ros, a peninsula, an isthmus, a promontory. Rhos, in Welsh, is a moor, a bog. Ros, in Cor. Br., is a mountain, a meadow, a common. Rose and Rosh signify a valley or dale between hills.

ARBLASTER

A corruption of Bamistarius, a cross-bowman, one who directed the great engines of war used before the invention of cannon. In the kernils (battlements) here and there, Of Arblastirs great plenty were. Rom. of the Rose.
