Famed Early Italian Books to go Online Next Month

A collection of early Italian printed books is to go online early next month after months of scanning work at the National Library in Florence, digitization company ProQuest said Wednesday at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Among the 3,000 books scanned by the US-based company are books personally owned by the early astronomer Galileo Galilei. Researchers will be able to read his own handwritten notes scribbled in the margins of the books. Also among the old books scanned at the Italian library are 1,000 volumes from the Aldine Press, established in 1495 in Venice.
